State Judging Director

The State Judging Director’s duties include delegating and overseeing the work of the NAWGJ NY South Committee. These areas of responsibility include judges’ education and testing , communications with the NAWGJ membership, assigning, finances and financial reports, the accuracy of member information including CPE and Active Status and determining positions of the State Committee members. The SJD must convene a minimum of two State Committee meetings annually AND ATTEND NAWGJ REGIONAL AND NATIONAL MEETINGS. The SJD must also embody and enforce high ethical standards in judging and professionalism.

Assign all sanctioned meets and requested competitions using the JAS system, confirming contracts and appointing the Meet Referee and event judges for each meet. Prepare a report detailing the assigned meets and the number of judges for the SJD’s April Report. Collaborate with the CPE Coordinator and SJD to ensure judges’ membership compliance and eligibility for assignments.

Record and distribute minutes for all NAWGJ NY South Committee meetings, maintain a log of these minutes, and review them at subsequent meetings. Additionally, serve as the Membership Historian, tracking members’ years of service and related details.

Financial Officer


Maintains records of the checking account and debit card expenditures, processes reimbursement forms, and verifies submitted expenses. Responsibilities include balancing the checkbook, tracking deposits, writing checks, reconciling bank statements, and providing a detailed Excel spreadsheet of all financial transactions. Quarterly financial reports are prepared and uploaded to Google Docs, ensuring transparency for SJD, RJD, and the National office. Additionally, the Financial Officer assists with financial decisions by analyzing past expenditures.

Establish and maintain the NAWGJ website to improve communication and engagement within the NAWGJ community.

CPE Coordinator


CPE is a USAG requirement. Track judges’ CPE hours and clinical hours for the state and compile a list of those who meet the requirements. By June 30th, submit this list to relevant USAG and NAWGJ officials. Additionally, by September 1st, maintain a list of judges who fulfill NAWGJ Active Status requirements, including memberships, safety training, background checks, and Safe Sport certification.

Judges’ Education and Training


Mentor new and active judges by offering guidance on gymnastics and judging, helping them prepare for certification tests. Organize educational opportunities through clinics and shared resources to support their development.

Judges’ Cup Coordinator(s)


Responsibilities include organizing the event’s theme, activities, critiques, and awards ceremony, promoting the event, coordinating with the Meet Director on scheduling, and arranging accommodations for judges. Form a committee that orders awards, works with the host gym, and collaborates with the Hospitality Chair on event logistics.

Hospitality and NAWGJ Community Building

Develop menu and organize food and beverages for judges and coaches at the Judge’s Cup and other events as needed. Create a  data base for special events, both happy and sad to acknowledge community support for the members.

New Judge Recruitment and TA

Lead a recruitment program to attract new judges and provide testing opportunities for them as TA. Collaborate with the Judges’ Education and Training Chair to support these efforts.
